Mining / Learning / Capability

Mining learning and capability, built from someone who has actually worked in a mine.

I help mining and heavy-industry leaders connect compliance, capability, systems and the work people do. The result is a training system that can support safer work, sound decisions and credible evidence.

The operating view

The problem is rarely a missing course.

Mine training problems often appear as overdue completions, an LMS issue, inconsistent assessment, duplicated content or poor reporting. Those are signals. The deeper issue is usually a broken connection between the work, its risks, the people doing it and the evidence the operation relies on.

A useful response starts with the role and the task. It traces the requirements that apply, decides how capability should be developed and verified, and then gives supervisors and leaders a clear view of currency, exposure and action.

That is the space I work in: between operations, safety, learning, technology and business change.

Where I help

Build the system around competent work.

An engagement can focus on one stuck problem or the full learning and capability operating model.

01

Training system design

Define how roles, risks, requirements, learning, assessment, authorisation and evidence fit together across a site or business.

02

Role and requirement architecture

Turn position, task, statutory, site and contractor requirements into a structure people can assign, maintain and explain.

03

Training needs analysis

Find the gaps that matter by comparing the work and its risks with current capability, rather than starting with a course catalogue.

04

Learning technology

Select, configure or repair the LMS and surrounding tools so the technology supports the operating model and produces usable evidence.

05

Assurance and insight

Make records decision-ready: who is current, where exposure sits, what is due, which controls need attention and what leaders should do next.

06

Change and new capability

Build the practice, support and feedback needed when new systems, equipment, standards or ways of working reach the frontline.

The first pass

Five questions before choosing the answer.

These questions keep the work anchored to operational need. They also expose where a policy, process, provider or platform is carrying a job it was never designed to do.

  1. 01

What work must this person be able and authorised to do?

  2. 02

Which risks, obligations and site standards shape that work?

  3. 03

What would count as credible evidence of current capability?

  4. 04

Where do assignments, records or ownership break across teams and systems?

  5. 05

What operating signal should trigger review, retraining or reassessment?

Why Greg Woulfe

The coalface, the global centre and the systems between.

I started as a mining operator and moved through trainer, adviser and superintendent roles. I later led a global learning function across operations, technology and corporate teams in manufacturing and mining services.

That range matters. I can work with the detail of roles, tasks, requirements and records, then connect it to leadership decisions, system design and change at scale. I also build software products, so technology recommendations have to survive real users and real constraints.

Common questions

Mining learning and capability consulting.

01What does a mining learning and capability consultant do?

A mining learning and capability consultant helps an operator connect work, risk, role requirements, training, assessment, systems and evidence. The job may include training needs analysis, capability frameworks, LMS strategy, governance, data design, change support and practical performance support.

02Can you review an existing mine training system or LMS?

Yes. A review can cover the operating model, role and requirement structure, governance, learning pathways, assessment and verification, LMS configuration, integrations, records, reporting and the experience of workers, supervisors and training teams.

03Do you work outside coal mining?

Yes. The approach applies across coal, metalliferous mining, quarrying, mining services, manufacturing and other high-risk or asset-intensive environments.

04Can you help with a mining LMS selection or replacement?

Yes, but the work starts with the training system the LMS must support. That means defining users, roles, requirements, evidence, workflows, reporting and integrations before comparing products or migrating data.

05Where is Future Capable based?

Future Capable is based in Newcastle, New South Wales and works with Australian organisations. Engagements can combine site visits, workshops and remote delivery depending on the work.

Bring the operating problem

Start with where capability is breaking down.

You do not need a finished brief. Bring the site, system, workforce or change problem and we can work out the first useful move.
